Second International Conference Social and Environmental Impact of FDI & Local Investment and CE strategies to strengthen MSMEs competitiveness Cairo, Egypt – (October 10, 2023) The Federation of Egyptian Industries has organized the Second International Conference Social and Environmental Impact of FDI & Local Investment and CE strategies to strengthen MSMEs competitiveness in the context of Cluster4Green Project. The conference discussed clustering, networking, transnational cooperation, economy-based business development programs, green technologies uptake and civil society engagement. The Conference was a forum to showcase and exchange information on the Green technology initiatives. Two Showcases where displayed which are single use bags and E-waste in Egypt. The main theme of the event was Circular Economy Strategies led by Egyptian Government different institutions Ministry of Planning, General Authority of Investment and Free Zones, Industrial Development Authority and Medium Small and Micro Enterprises Development Agency. Keeping an eye on a very important pillar of the project, transforming SMEs into Circular Business Model utilizing EMBRACE Toolkit to the Custer4Green BOOST process. The Session magnified the result of the training provided to the SMEs and our facilitators on circular economy business model canvas and how to generate solutions and real opportunities from new business models, value chain analysis, saving sources and money. SMEs testimonials of the transformation of their business model and opportunities generated were exhibited. Six companies showcased their progress, Picotex for Dyeing, Printing and Finishing Textile, I-Furniture Group for Wooden Products, MGIECA Car Air Fresheners, HOPPEC for Chemicals and Polymers, El BOUDY IINTERCOM and ELDoaa Plast for Plastics and Packaging. Continuing the pathway to a session that was organized to demonstrate the steps and outcomes of Sustainable Investment Framework Pitching Competition to enhance projects sustainability in four categories of impact: Economic, Environmental, Social, and Territorial by a pilot competition/award for sustainable MSMEs. The awarded three MSMEs presented the services provided to enhance their sustainability. Finally, in the grand design of Egypt's future of the great transformation to have a sustainable economic system and focusing on green investments. Special session was allocated for the outcomes of Sustainable Investment Framework National Impact Rating developed by ANIMA that is much needed as measurement tool to assess the impact of local and FDI on the sustainability of a business projects according to its economic, social, environmental and territorial impacts in collaboration with national institutions. Finally, an MoU was signed with Egyptian Junior Businessmen Association to forge the CLUSTE4GREEN sustainable investment alliance.
